Get to know Kelly Carlson

I have a degree in elementary education with a specialization in early childhood. I really enjoy teaching young children. I am a homeschool mom of 5 and have taught violin since I was in highschool. I teach with a traditional style. I teach the foundations of music theory along with teaching the actual instrument. I start with the basics and really focus on proper violin and bow hold, intonation, and bow stroke. I incorporate different books, not just one style. However, I like All For Strings books and Suzuki books for beginners. I also help students with solo pieces and orchestra music for school. I have students at many different ages and levels. I always stay with the pace of the student, while challenging them to push themselves forward. I want to give my students a love for playing the violin and learn how satisfying it is to learn a piece of music. I want them to appreciate beautiful music and enjoy music to the glory of God!

I am a teacher by nature! I absolutely love to teach children and adults how to play the violin. It is a rewarding job when students stick with it, and especially when I get to have the same students for years. I believe students will always have a hobby or a "friend" if they learn a musical instrument."
