Tal McGee Violin, Viola, Piano
Tal McGee is a violinist, violist, and pianist from Spring, Texas. He has studied Undergraduate
and Master’s degrees at the Manhattan School of Music in New York City studying with Patinka
Kopec and Pinchas Zukerman, and graduating with awards in chamber music and academic
achievement.
Tal has been faculty at HeifetzPEG (2019) and Omaha Conservatory of Music Institute
(2017-2018) summer programs. He has been teaching at Arbor Music since 2021
Tal McGee has performed as soloist with the Boulder Bach Festival. He also received the
designation as a Houston Young Artist’s Concert Artist for 2013-14.
Tal has been performing with the Classical Musical Institute Orchestra in San Antonio, working
with the San Antonio Opera and Ballet. He has served as principal violist for the Manhattan
School of Music Philharmonia Orchestra, the Sewanee Summer Music Festival Symphony
Orchestra, the Boston University Tanglewood Institute Young Artists Orchestra, and the Houston
Youth Symphony.
Previous teachers have included Sheldon Person and Zachary Carrettin.
As a chamber musician, his ensemble has won the Lillian Fuchs Chamber Competition in 2016
and 2017. He has been coached by Lawrence Dutton of the Emerson String Quartet, Nicholas
Mann, the Muir String Quartet, Anton Nel, David Geber, Michael Zaretsky and Michel LaCourse.
He has attended such summer programs as the Heifetz Ashkenazy/Kirschbaum seminar,
Boston University Tanglewood Institute, the Sewanee Summer Music Festival and the National
Arts Centre Young Artists Program.
