LAYNE ROBERTS - VOICE

LAYNE ROBERTS - VOICE

Layne Roberts teaches voice at Arbor Music on Monday.

Where and how did you get your start in music?

I started singing when I was about 5 years old and began formal lessons when I was 11.

What is your favorite style of music to play/ What is your primary instrument?

I do a lot of musical theater so I love singing show tunes, especially ones with a lot of emotion!

Who is your favorite composer/musician?

My favorite composer Clara Schumann.

What inspired you to teach/what do you enjoy about teaching?

I was inspired to become a teacher because I had an amazing music teacher in high school. I love teaching young musicians, watching them grow and guiding them through the process of becoming a better musician.

How do you motivate students to practice?

By scaring them into practicing.

What are some unique things you do to make a positive impact on students’ musical growth?

By letting them have fun. It is hard to grow as a student if you are not enjoying what you’re doing. So I give them the tools to sing whatever songs they want, I do not stick to a certain genre.

If you were a tree, what kind of tree would you be?

A Christmas tree
